I think there's a trend right now of everyone wanting to be taken care of, heard, seen, valued, etc., and not enough thought given to self-sufficiency and the needs and lives of OTHER people. No one should expect anyone else (unless it's a capable partner) who isn't being paid for it to take care of them.

It isn't our friends', children's, or neighbors' job to take care of us. If they can help and they want to, great, but they also have their own lives that should come first.
