She said what she thought was best for her kids, and she was speaking as the mother of those kids. What she thinks is best for herself has nothing to do with what anyone else does and isn't about anyone but herself and her kids. If you like soda and I say I don't like it because I don't think it's good for me, I'm not talking about you and your choice to drink soda, or what other drinks you might have available to you. I'm saying I don't want to drink it.
If you read her piece, you must have seen the many indications that she loves her kids. I even quoted some of them in my piece. I got the impression that her kids are confident in her love for them and were capable of handling her feelings.
