I’m going to make the decision easy for anyone thinking about dating my friend John, who is observably cute on the surface but an ocean of complicated mystery down below.

Beneath the surface, I mean.

Some things to know about John before you wade in too deep:

He needs someone who can handle a strong man

John wants to be with a woman. He does not need a woman.

His career is on track, he has his own place, and he just bought his first car — brand new! — all without help from anyone. He knows what he wants and where he’s going, and he just wants someone he can enjoy spending time with while he continues building himself professionally.

Speaking of that…

He wants to maintain his own career

John has always been an independent, ambitious person, and his goal is to establish a lifelong career — one he will not allow to become secondary to, or derailed by, a relationship.
