There's a movie we watched with my in-laws one Christmas (we always have a movie marathon), and all I remember about it - I don't even remember the title - is a single line of dialogue the actor said that was so "writer-y" I rolled my eyes and cursed the screenwriter (and/or the director) for not editing it out. He was talking about his empathy or his feelings or something intangible, and he said, "I left it in my other pants." It was so out of place and masturbatory (writer-wise) that the rest of the movie disappeared for me. I'm not proud of this, I'm just saying!

There are some things that make a story, or the writing, bad for some people, and others don't mind it at all - or they even prefer it!
