This was interesting…I experienced nothing like the infighting/drama you described while getting my MFA. I don’t think the program is designed to be held responsible for improving someone’s writing, but to create an environment that pays attention to the craft of it, provides an opportunity to work with other writers in critique / workshop classes, and time to learn from those critiques (the ones you give and the ones you receive) how to improve your own work as well as what’s valuable feedback and what isn’t. Totally agree that it’s not going to guarantee anyone a good (paying) job or even connections that will be especially helpful. I think of it like any art school - you attend to immerse yourself.
