When I was around 18, I became aware of the understanding that "women have children." I was a grocery bagger at the time, and one day when this life script was making me nervous, any time I was bagging behind a different cashier, I asked, "If you could go back in time, would you have kids again?" (They all had children.) Eight out of ten said they love their kids (of course), but that if they could do it over again, they probably wouldn't have chosen parenthood. That was information I needed then, and I agree we still need it now for those who think they're odd for not wanting kids or who are scared by the threats of, "You'll regret it!" I hate that one more than almost any other. (Second most hated is, "You'll change your mind.")
